I am always inspired by the talent and creativity in the wedding industry. After spending some time chatting with Sarah from Rianne”s Bridal at the Custom Weddings show, I knew she was a true visionary and asset to the Spokane and Coeur d”Alene wedding community. Her designs are original, fresh and a great option for any bride wanting something unlike any other. It was a joy to get some time to speak with her and see her beautiful work!
How long have you been designing and selling dresses, and how did you get started?
I started in the bridal industry at 16 years old. I was a nanny for a family that owned one, and the mother ended up putting me in the bridal shop while she stayed home with the kids. After the family sold the shop, I became a nanny again for a couple of years, then decided to open my own bridal boutique. I have had my own boutique for 3 years.
What is your favorite part about working with brides?
Brides are a completely unique clientele. They are not just a client because you aren’t selling just a dress. You are selling a dress that she will wear when she makes a lasting commitment to the man of her dreams. Being a part of a couple starting their lives together is a privilege.
What is the most difficult aspect of your work?
Hands down, the most difficult aspect is dealing with the emotions of a wedding. There is always some interesting dynamic within a bridal party. Sometimes it atoledo conflict between the mother and daughter, or a bridesmaid or a father etc… Those relationship struggles are magnified during wedding planning because emotions are running so high for everyone. Unfortunately, working in a bridal shop, you can get put right in the middle. The main thing to focus on is the bride…reassuring her everything will work out and sometimes just being there for her to vent to someone who doesn’t have a dog in the fight (laugh).
How would you describe your style?
My style personally…I am pretty classic. I don’t tend to follow trends, unless it’s too fabulous of a trend to ignore J If you look in my closet you will see mostly black. It’s my staple and my comfort zone. Even though I am 5’11” I love heels and you will often see me in them, towering over most women. When I was younger I use to hate being so tall, but I finally learned to embrace it…and it helps that my amazing husband is 6’4”.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from my brides. Listening to them in appointments as the describe what they want to change about a gown gives me inspiration to create.
What are your price ranges?
Our gowns start at around $1000.00. All of our gowns are customized and made for each individual bride. There isn’t a warehouse somewhere with all different sizes of gowns that they just pull and ship when you place your order. The making of a gown from start to finish can take 6-9 months, even 12 months in some cases. All of our beadwork is hand sewn as well, sometimes having over 300 hours spent just on the beadwork. We encourage brides to start the process early so they can make a unique custom gown that no one else will ever have!
What designers (besides yourself) do you carry?
We have mostly private labels, so the brides will have to come in for an appointment to view our collections!
What is your favorite part about living in the Inland Northwest?
The snow! Winter is my favorite time of year. I love that snow means Christmas! I am one of those people that listen to Christmas music before Halloween is even here. The first snow fall of winter is considered a holiday in my mind.
What is your favorite dessert and where is the best place to get it?
Wacky cake, and the only place to get it is my mama’s kitchen!| 0 comments
