Baroque Network is Back!

Baroque Network

Have you all heard of the Baroque Network? Well, if you haven’t, start listening.  I have been loosely involved in this organization since it’s inception and seen it grow and change with the desires of the Spokane small business creatives.  Soiree Event Design has officially joined the Baroque Network Creative Team in helping with event design and coordination.  We couldn’t be more excited!

Want to know a little bit more about the Baroque Network? Two options: One, watch this rad video by Seth Mead or, two, read my somewhat exciting text below.  I can only guess what you’ll choose…

The Baroque Network was founded by Matt Bogue and Alanna Spencer in 2010.  The Baroque Network strives to connect people in Spokane who are passionate about community, local business and the arts.  Through networking and encouragement we can create a better city to do business in and a better city to live in.  The Baroque Network Quarterly Event gives an opportunity for entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, politicians, or anybody who just wants to be involved in our community to speak about their passion with like-minded individuals and help create an environment for success.

Next Baroque Networking Event will be held:

  • Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at 6 pm
  • A Club Spokane: 416 W. Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA
  • All ages of creative, fun people are welcome!
  • Gypsy Nights

For any local businesses looking for a little more exposure, we offer $30 vendor tables.  Some of the benefits of these vendor tables are listed on the Baroque Network site.  This is a great and affordable opportunity to showcase your business among like-minded individuals.   Entry is free, but we will have a suggested donation for our highlighted non-profit of the quarter.

If you would like more information about the Baroque Network, please contact either Ali or Jessica at info@designbysoiree.com.

Color Inspired: Lavender, Dusty Pink, Tan and Ivory

I am obsessed with organic looking colors; rich, rich colors that only nature is capable of producing or colors a little muted they almost look dirty, and, to me, quite lovely.  Here’s some color inspiration for the bride who isn’t afraid of a little dust in her colors!

Rebecca Hollis Photography

Oh my goodness, I adore this woman and her talent.  Rebecca and I chatted about a month ago about Rebecca Hollis Photography and what she offers the Spokane Wedding community.  She is a very talented photographer, but beyond that, a very beautiful person.  Our conversation quickly went from talking about photography to reminiscing about growing up in small towns, big families and traveling as much as we can.  One of my main concerns when choosing a wedding photographer is that you fee comfortable with them around; they are going to be with you ALL day.  Rebecca is so warm-hearted and approachable, I’m not sure who she wouldn’t be a good fit for!  Sadly, Rebecca will be moving to Montana this year, but will still travel to Spokane and CDA for event photography!

What’s your favorite thing about wedding photography?

Capturing the individuality of each wedding.  It is nice that there is a recent shift to making weddings very personal.

Do you mostly photograph weddings?

Yes. I do some family portraits and senior pictures, but weddings are definitely my niche.  I do a good mix of Spokane and Idaho weddings.

How do you structure your wedding day packages?

All of my packages include an engagement sessions.  It’s really helpful for me to get to know my couples and see how they are in front of the camera.  I really like to do that.  I have a time limited, but it is flexible.  I put a time limit on there just so that there is a good schedule of when good pictures can get taken. I have a second photographer available.  Her name is Jennifer Haas and she is available if I need a second photographer for a wedding.

What is your price range?

I start at $2,000 for my basic package.  That’s the basic with 6 hours, engagement session, online gallery and a wedding proofs album with all edited photos.  If I style a photo in a certain way, I will usually include the original as well as the edited images. I have four different packages from there.  Most clients choose one of my middle packages.  Depending on the client budget, I am willing to be flexible.

How would you describe your photographic style?

I like to read the couple and cater to what I feel they will like, but I tend to be a little quirky.  I hesitate to say vintage because I feel that is overused, but some of my work has a little bit of a vintage look.

What’s your favorite dessert and where is the best place to get it?

My favorite dessert has to be S’mores!  You just can’t beat the fire roasted crust on the mallow mixed with the melty chocolate and the graham cracker crunch. And, the best place to get it is in my backyard!

What’s your favorite part about living in the Inland Northwest?

The mountains!  I grew up in the forests with lots of lakes, but no mountains.  It’s been great to take adventures in, on, and around them.  I’m never without awe when I wake up in the morning and look out the window.

Color Inspired: Orange and Green

As I sit and wait for inspiration in the wonderful Northwest sunshine I realize something: I like orange. This is not something I would have said before. But, so often orange is saved for fall events. This doesn’t have to be the case. Orange can be perfect for summer!

Photo Shoot with Matt Shumate

Jessica of Soiree Event Design by Matt Shumate

Ali and I have been so lucky to be welcomed into such a talented and inspirational group of people who make up the event industry in Spokane. Matt Shumatewas our first vendor profile on our blog, he has included us in inspiration shoots, and recommended us to our first client. When I heard he was looking for models for a photograph, I jumped at the chance and volunteered myself and my husband to play the part of “bride and groom.” It was inspiring to hear his vision for this photo and watch as it became reality.

Last Wednesday evening my husband, Jonathan, and I met Matt and his amazing group of assistants in the wooded area next to the Glover Mansion. We got off to a slow start with the rain that decided to fall just before the shoot, but the wait paid off and the photograph that came out of it turned out beautifully!

Big “Thank yous” need to go out to all of Matt’s assistants, my wonderful business partner Ali Messer for her hair styling capabilities, my supportive husband Jonathan Manfredonia, Julie at The Make-Up Studio for my wonderful make up and Storybook Bridal for providing a perfect gown. I felt so beautiful, thanks to all of you!

Read a little more about Matt’s inspiration on his blog.  Here’s a picture of the group! Thanks everyone for a fun, inspiring shoot!
